In today’s 24/7 digital world, we have instant access to online information. Educators need strategies to equip students with the skills to critically evaluate today's media. Learn how to integrate concepts in news and media literacy to enhance critical thinking skills in science, civics and ELA. This poster will highlight lessons from Common Sense Education's Digital Citizenship Curriculum, built on 10+ years of expertise and classroom testing. These teaching materials give students the essential skills to be smart, savvy media consumers and creators.
If you don't have the resources to provide quality professional development for your IT team, this poster session is the opportunity to learn about a Statewide project that will provide free technical training for your IT personnel. The Technical Assistance Professional Development Grant is the first program in the nation to provide quality online and in-person training for school district IT personnel. The program is being developed by experts throughout the country and is funded by a $10M Grant from the State of California.
REFILLING THE FIRE & REKINDLING THE WELL: POETRY FOR EDUCATORS
The metaphor may be mixed but the message is not. Poet and former teacher Taylor Mali shares stories and poems from the classroom including “The Impotence of Proofreading,” “Miracle Workers,” and "What Teachers Make.” Be reminded why you chose to do what you do by one who has been there and survived.

Side-by-side images of classrooms from 1917 and one from 2017, yields eerie similarities in many schools today, even with the 100-year difference. What can be done? How can schools and classrooms transform from those from the industrial era where desks are in rows, students are facing forward, and have teachers always front and center to ones that are student centered, personalized, and leverage the power of technology? Districts and schools across the nation are transforming into ones that are Future Ready, revamping such aspects as teacher empowerment, personalized professional learning, innovative learning spaces, community partnerships, digital learning initiatives, among others. This keynote will inspire school leaders and provide free tools and resources to empower them to transform their districts, schools, and classrooms into ones that better prepare students for the world they face tomorrow.
Teachers have used Interactive Notebooks for years but why not let go of the cutting and gluing and let students CREATE interactive notebooks online? Digital Interactive Notebooks allow students a new way to present their work while address class and technology standards.
Every journey requires a great guide, this is the guide for 1:1 deployments. Walk away with everything needed to begin, expand or improve your program, from policy to procedures, parent handouts to student expectations.
The power inherent in 1:1 deployments to enhance student learning is unmistakable. Implemented with thought and purpose the 1:1 learning environment supports student equity throughout an institution. These successful 1:1 deployments don’t occur by accident, rather planning, organizational commitment, long term vision, and community partnerships are crafted to create a sustainable program.
Take a journey through the 1:1 galaxy to discover the paths to successfully implement a 1:1 device program; from visioning, pre-planning, training, implementation stages to the deployment, reflection and iteration for success this session will visit the various education locations that create the ultimate map for 1:1 learning. Leveraging technology at each stage of the process, the session will demonstrate how innovation can ensure a quality learning experience creating equity for all students. The session explores the power of participant-driven professional learning, of engaging the community stakeholders and utilizing personalized tools to evaluate and iterate student learning.
While the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42, this session seeks to determine if the long sought after question to that answer is, “How do you implement a successful, equitable and sustainable 1:1 device program?”
Come to be inspired, leave empowered. Your students deserve the best - let’s learn from others’ challenges and successes.

She quickly realized the value of utilizing computers for music mixing and recording. She grabbed her 300 baud modem, jumped on the Internet (before anyone really called it the internet) and started looking for music resources. She soon realized she was spending more time discovering technology than playing music so she changed her major and tried to gure out what geeky thing she could do for the rest of her life.
After graduating from USC with a Business and Marketing degree in 1989 and doing a quick stint as a Trainer, Leslie joined Apple Computer in 1992. When the Internet took off in 1994, Leslie was one of the first Apple employees assigned to study Internet growth and implementation.
In 1997, Leslie was roadkill on Apple’s road to recovery and part of their massive lay off. Leslie planned to spend most of her huge severance package golfing and waiting a few months to look for a job. The day after her layoff, her phone began to ring with Apple customers requesting consulting, training and presentation services. Before she could say “Fore,” Fisher Technologies Inc. was created to help educators with their technology implementations and decisions.
Fisher Technologies Inc. is now a worldwide company (meaning one employee named Leslie gets to travel the world teaching) specializing in presenting emerging and exciting technology solutions to educators all over the world. The CUE Student-Powered Showcase (SPS) invites attendees to actively participate with students in creating, problem solving and learning. Attendees may collaborate with students on a robotics or 3D printing project, or they may get down on the floor to figure out how a robot works.
Since 2001, the showcase has featured student technology integrated projects that aligned with the CA state standards. It is organized by a Task Force of innovative CUE members and produced in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education. More information at www.cue.org/showcase
